Myra Williams Austin, 67, died Tuesday, January 15, 2008. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the family home from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Friday. Myra’s first job was as an educator. She taught in the North Carolina Public Schools and was a librarian, where she opened the worlds of fine art and literature to her students. After retiring from Forest Hills High School, she joined her husband in their real estate business. Myra served as a trustee of Carolina’s Medical Center-Union. In addition, she was active in Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC), Sorosis Book Club, several bridge clubs, Friends of the Union County Libraries and other charitable activities. Myra also enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing. Myra had many friends with whom she enjoyed cultural and social events. Myra was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Elem Austin, her parents, Murray Williams and Virginia Baucom Williams Mills and her brother, Murray Williams, Jr. She is survived by her son, Joe and daughter-in-law, Whitley Austin and grandchildren, Gordon and Mary Preston Austin of Cary; sisters, Rebecca Medlin of Monroe and Cathy Stone of Cary; sisters-in-law, Sybil Steele, Ferry Lane Lowder and Becky Ball.
