Myrtle Bryant Johnson, 97, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Autumn Care of Marshville. She was born June 24, 1918, in Union County, to the late Clement Marshall Bryant and Betty Smith Bryant. Mrs. Johnson attended New Salem School and retired as an instructor at Springs Industries. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will visit with relatives and friends, prior to the funeral service from 1:00 to 1:45 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Waxhaw City Cemetery. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda J. McCorkle and husband, Steve, of Monroe and Joyce Blythe of Waxhaw; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Johnson; brothers, George Truitt Bryant, James W. Bryant, and Jerome Bryant; and sisters, Mary Jewell Edwards, Ruth Trull, Ola Mae Knight, Ann Eury, and Hazel James. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Autumn Care and Dr. Charles Hoover for their love and excellent care during her time of residence.
