She was a graduate of both Gulf Park College in Gulfport, Mississippi, and later UNC Charlotte. With two college degrees, she went further during her life to earn certifications as a paralegal along with insurance and appraising, and a broker’s license in Real Estate. Nancy’s was a lifelong journey of learning and performance in music as integral parts of her life. Ben Harper expressed her own orientation to music when he said, “Music is the last true voice of the human spirit. It can go beyond language, beyond age and beyond color, straight to the heart of all people”. Nancy gave voice to this with her beautiful, bright and ringing soprano talent. She used that talent both in secular and sacred community endeavors as she continued her vocal studies. Believing music essential to the very act of worship, she used her beautiful voice to express her faith. After graduating from Gulf Park College, she resided in Richmond, VA., where she studied voice and modeled professionally. Here she became soprano soloist with Centenary Methodist Church. She and Dr. Price (Bill) were married upon his graduation from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. They moved to Monroe, NC, his hometown, and Nancy became a faithful parishioner and choir member at Central United Methodist Church. She participated as a soprano soloist in many sacred music productions including “Seven Last Words” by DuBois, Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, Handel’s “Messiah”, Rutter’s “Requiem”, Brahm’s “Requiem”, Mozart’s “Regina Coeli” and “The Passion of Christ” by David Williams. Nancy contributed her vocal talents to an even broader range of music through avenues such as Richmond’s Opera, Theatre and Choral Society. She was a regular soloist with Richmond Television Weekly’s “Beautiful Memories” telecast. Upon her return to NC, she performed with regional organizations including the NC Symphony, the Mitch Miller Orchestra, Charlotte Opera, Charlotte Oratorio Singers and the Oratorio’s Chamber Choir. The theatre offered yet another venue for Nancy’s voice. She performed with the Charlotte Town Players and the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC singing such roles as Manuelita in “La Perichole”, Hebe in “HMS Pinafore” and Elizabetta in Verdi’s “Don Carlo”. In Monroe, she portrayed Elsa in the Union County Player’s production of “The Sound of Music”. She was an active member of several organizations in both Mecklenburg and Union Counties. In Charlotte she was affiliated with the Charlotte Opera Guild, Charlotte Symphony Guild, Charlotte Oratorio and Choral Choir, the Central Piedmont (CPCC) opera workshop, the Charlotte Debutante Guild and the Charlotte Dental Auxiliary. Her Monroe memberships included the Union Symphony League, the Union Symphony as a board member, the League of Women Voters and the Heritage Book Club. She also enjoyed membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Nancy felt blessed with a wonderful family, abundant energy, and a talent she could use to bring joy and meaning to others. She faced life and its adversities with optimism, courage, and strength. A service to celebrate her life with the Lord and with music will be held at a later date.
