Ruth La’Nelle “Nelle” Looney Nelle Looney, 87, of Monroe, NC went to her heavenly home on Monday, May 25, 2015. Nelle, a crossword and jigsaw puzzle aficionado, was born on October 7, 1927 in Jenkins, Kentucky. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Nelle loved Jesus dearly and was a fan of Elvis, Vince Gill, and Marty Robbins. Her sweet potato casserole, cornbread, and chess pie were legendary. Nelle is preceded in death by her husband James “Fred” Looney; her father and mother, E. Hershel Preston and Iva Reed Preston; as well as her brother, Norman Preston. She is survived by her son and his wife John and Lynda Looney; as well as her two grandchildren, Joshua and Jason. Visitation will be held at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 1712 Carmel Church Rd, Monroe, NC on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 1:00pm followed by the funeral at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Monroe, N.C.
