Norma June Drye

Norma June Stegall Drye, 65 of New Salem, NC., passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. She was born June 1, 1953 to the late Ward and Helen Hinson Stegall. Funeral service for Norma will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 8804 Hwy 218, Marshville, NC 28103. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Norma was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and teacher and leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 45 years, Bobby Drye, two sons; Darren Drye, wife Amber, Adam Drye, wife Erin, four grandchildren; Nolan, Liam, Track and Beckett Drye, eight siblings; Bill Stegall wife Betty, Louise Napier husband Henry, Diane Griffin husband Irvin, Joe Stegall wife Wanda, Kenneth Stegall wife Sharon, Tim Stegall wife Dawn, Gary Stegall wife Debra and Beverly Howell husband Doug, and her devoted mother-in-law Nellie Drye. She was born and raised in Union County where she excelled in academics and athletics at Piedmont High School and Wingate College. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education, she was a well-respected Health and Physical Education teacher and coach as well as a Driver’s Education teacher for many years at Piedmont High School, where she retired after 20 years. Norma taught Home Economics at Forest Hills High and Sun Valley High school. Norma enjoyed working with young people, she was always supportive and encouraging to her students to reach their full potential. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Friday, May 17, 2019 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
