Norman "Judd" Joyner

Norman Judson (Judd) Joyner, 96, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018. He was born October 18, 1921 in Murfreesboro, NC son to the late Norman Shaw Laura Blanchard Joyner. He is also preceded in death by this wife Betty Joyner, three brothers, John Joyner, N.S. Joyner, and Ralph Joyner; three sisters, Marion Gillis, Earline Joyner, and Donnie Helms. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Judd graduated from Waxhaw High School and served in the Air Force during World War II. He was an airplane mechanic at the time of D Day and The Battle of the Budge, working on airplanes that provided support for the ground troops driving Hitler out of France. Upon returning home, he met a young woman named Betty that would become his future wife. Betty’s kind and gentle spirit along with Judd’s tough and stern spirit made life interesting and enjoyable for both of them during their 66 years of marriage. They always made decisions and did things together. Judd was an excellent carpenter during his working years. In retirement, he and Betty enjoyed their farm and cows. They also loved spending time at Ocean Isle Beach. A special and long endearing relationship with their two grandsons, Jonathon and Andrew was of utmost importance to both of them. They shared lots of good times on the farm and at the beach through the years together. Judd is survived by his son, Jerry Joyner and wife, Sandra of Waxhaw, grandsons Jonathon Joyner and wife, Mary of Waxhaw, and Andrew Joyner and wife, Jessica of Johnson City, TN, three great grandchildren, Hayden, Mattie, and Anders, and one sister Emily Newell of Columbia, SC.
