Olin Letcher Smith

Olin Letcher Smith, 63, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022. He was born August 17, 1959 in Union County, son of the late H. Letcher & Claudette Helms Smith.


He was a 1977 graduate of Monroe High School. He served in the United States Army in the 25th Infantry Division where he was stationed in Oklahoma and later in Hawaii. He had deployments to Korea and New Zealand. He worked for ATI starting in 1981and retired as a Final Inspector in 2014. He enjoyed traveling with his family, spending time at Lake Wateree, deep sea fishing, gardening and was a huge football fan. He was constantly learning new things, had a beautifully eccentric mind and was an avid dog lover.


Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, at Lee Park Church, 2491 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110 with burial to follow with military honors in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.


Olin is survived by his loving wife of five years, Judy Mangum Smith and daughter in love, McKenzie Hernandez, two daughters, Amber Eubanks (Josh) of Indian Trail, Tiffany Thompson (Darryl) of Matthews, five grandchildren, Landon and Camden Thompson, Braxton, Brayden and Jackson Eubanks, and an uncle, Jimmy Helms (Loretta) of Linconton, GA.
