Dateline: Monroe, NC Oscar Muriel Helms, 84, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012. He was born in Union County, NC on September 29, 1927 in Union County, NC son of the late William Oscar and Lilly Long Helms Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mangum Helms, son-in-law, Kenneth Pressley, brothers, Alexander, Leonard, Wade and Whiteford Helms, sisters, Ethel Broome, Jenny Aldridge, Leoma Simpson, Ava Lee Nash, and Louise Simpson. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Pressley, granddaughter, Kendra Costello and husband Bryan, grandson, Jeramy Pressley and wife Sunni, all of Monroe, great grandchildren, Cole Pressley, Monika, Alexis, Hanna, and Logan Costello. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
