Funeral Service
Patricia (Pat) Elaine Braswell Johnson passed away on March 14, 2026 peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born January 21, 1945 in Monroe, NC. Daughter of the late Robert Glenn Braswell and Alma Baucom Braswell. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School where she forged loving relationships with many friends. She completed her college degree at Western Carolina where she made many more lifelong friends and met her husband Vance (Van). She was an energetic and resourceful teacher for thirty-two years and encouraged students to succeed by never giving up on their God given potential. She expected everyone to give their best and lead her children into a wide range of activities during their formative years. Life with Mom (Pat) had a never-ending embrace of life experiences to expand appreciation of nature, music, other people, and each other. She loved animals, flowers, and all things beautiful and her sense of humor and adventure were legendary. Her love for her family, especially her children knew no bounds. This love extended to her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two older brothers, Gerald Ellis Braswell and Douglas Glenn Braswell.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Vance (Van) O’Neal Johnson. Her treasured children include daughter Valerie Guyer (Gantt), son Bryan Johnson (Angela), daughter Carrie Bramlett (Corey), and son Matthew Johnson (Caroline). She was proud of her seven grandchildren who are Trent Guyer, Luke Johnson, Teagan Johnson, Tucker Bramlett, Emory Bramlett, Finn Johnson and Max Johnson and loved by her sister-in-law Florence (Flo) Ellen Johnson of West Columbia, SC. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and numerous loving friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on March 19, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service with burial to follow at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Council on Aging in Union County at 1401 Skyway Drive, Monroe NC 28110; or, National MS Society, In Care of Joel Edwards, 116 Knicker Lane, Advance, NC 27006; or ZOCC Scholarship Foundation, 5100 Sharon Road, Unit 3002S, Charlotte, NC 28210.
