Obituary

Patricia “Pat” Bates Asher, 96, of Monroe, NC passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026. She was born in Flint, MI on May 1, 1930, daughter to the late George Bates and Mabel DeRosier Esparcia. She is also preceded by her husband, L.T. Asher and daughters, Patsy Surtees, and Linda Lanthorn, as well as a grandson, Billy Surtees.

As a proud career military wife, Pat successfully managed her household through many moves and deployments. She was a creative soul who loved crafts, painting, and crochet, and she always enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. An avid reader throughout her life, she filled her later years with her favorite word searches. Up until her final days, Pat looked forward to attending her local adult care program, where she enjoyed the activities and community.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service. The family will receive friends following the service at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. A private burial will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Asher Long (Jimmy). A special acknowledgement is given to Judy who faithfully and lovingly cared for her mother throughout her later years. Judy’s tireless devotion and sacrificial love were a beautiful reflection of her profound grace, honor, and commitment to family.,

Pat is also survived by her and grandchildren, Larry Heuston, Johnny Surtees, Tina Brown Haro (Andrew), Wendy Brown, Christy Long Inge (Scott), and Matthew Long (Season), as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
