Paul Howie, Jr., 84, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019. He was born in Monroe on October 8, 1934, son of the late Paul Howie Sr., and Bessie Strawn Howie. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00am at Oak Grove Baptist Church 4013 New Town Rd, Waxhaw, NC 28173m, burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. Visitations will be held Friday, February 15, 2019 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe NC 28112. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Army’s Big Red One Unit and his career at Lance Inc., where he could fix any machine. He was known for his woodworking; especially the more than 32,000 cedar crosses he created and gave to anyone he met. He gave thousands of crosses to Samaritan’s Purse, which were distributed around the world. Mr. Howie is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Perry Howie; daughters, Donna Howie Plowman (Jerry), and Deborah Howie Huffman; two grandsons, John Paul Plowman and William Clayton Plowman; Pat’s four children, and their families.
