Paula Mohler Russell

Paula Mohler Russell of Monroe, N.C., died Wednesday, August 23 after a long illness.


Mrs. Russell was born December 27, 1946, in Plant City, FL., the daughter of Harry Arthur and Pauline Murrell Mohler. She attended local schools, graduating from Plant City High School in 1964. Following high school, she moved to Atlanta, GA, to study interior design. Returning to Plant City she married Emmett Russell in 1967. They enjoyed 56 years together.


Paula was a stay-at-home mom for their 2 sons only entering the workforce when they were in high school. She enjoyed many years as an employee of Barnett Bank in Plant City.


In 1998 when there was no family left in Plant City, Emmett and Paula chose to live in Monroe, NC.

They made many new friends there. She loved the seasonal changes and the plants she could grow in NC. Her yard and garden gave her many happy and busy retirement hours.


Paula was a fifth-generation Methodist and was always active in her church, serving in many capacities. For several years she was employed by Central UNC.

She traveled extensively during her lifetime and always loved fishing and beach trips. She spent many happy hours on a lake with her dad then on salt water with her brother-in-law, Mike.


A devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife then mother. She will be missed by many. Spending quality time with her family and numerous friends was an important part of who she was!


Paula is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law John Michael Crum and parents in laws , Lee and Irene Russell.


She is survived by her loving husband, Emmett, sons Michael and wife MyChelle, of Royal Palm Beach FL and Stewart and fiancée Katie Dawson of Oxford. Al. Five grandchildren; Olivia and Chandler Russell of Charleston SC; Avery Russell of Oxford, AL; Rebecca Russell of Louisville KY and Austin Russell of Royal Palm Beach Fl.; a sister, Harriet Crum of Hahira. GA; three nieces, Michelle Crum Frey and Mindell Crum Downing of Hahira GA; and Carrie Crum Ingram of DeFuniak Springs, FL and their families.


A celebration of her life will be held on October 14, at Central UMC, 801 S. Hayne Street, Monroe, NC, 28112.
