We are heartbroken to share that Peggy Baucom Blackburn passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Peggy filled every room with love, kindness, and joy. From her sparkling personality and love of Conway Twitty’s music to her cherished Mustangs and her beloved pets, she lived life with warmth and devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and laughter will live on in all of us who were fortunate to know her.
Peggy Baucom Blackburn, 79, of Marshville, NC, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 18, 2026, in the presence of her daughter, Renee Nolan, and son, David Blackburn. She was born on January 1, 1947, in Union County, NC, the daughter of the late Charles Winfred Baucom and Ola Wallace Baucom.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nolan Wayne Blackburn; sister, Mavis Parker; grandson, Blake Andrew Carlton; beloved sisters-in-law, Betty Baucom and Tina Baucom; Angie Simpson, who shared many years in the home caring for Peggy with love and devotion alongside David; and her loyal and devoted best friend, Johnnie Lee Thomas Tarlton.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, February 23, 2026, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service & Crematory, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM prior to the service at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112..
Peggy is survived by her brothers, Ray Baucom and Shelly Baucom, whose lifelong love and close bond with their sister were truly special; her loving children, daughter Renee Nolan, and sons David Blackburn, Michael Blackburn (Shannon), and Ronnie Blackburn (Denise); and her only niece, Ellen Hinson; granddaughter Danielle Carlton (Eric Rape); grandsons Charlie Blackburn, Ryan Blackburn, Lathan Blackburn, and Brandon Blackburn; great-grandchildren Oliver Thomas Blackburn and Walker Ryan Blackburn; step-granddaughter Sara Templin (Andy); and step-great-grandchildren Greyson and Alaina Templin.
Peggy devoted her life to her family as a homemaker, lovingly raising three energetic sons and one determined daughter. She was known for her unconditional love, gentle kindness, and steady presence, which made everyone feel cared for and welcomed. She especially loved cooking and collecting recipe books, had a fondness for sparkling clothing, and was a devoted fan of Conway Twitty, whose music brought her great joy. She also had a special appreciation for Mustangs-especially her beloved red one, a gift from her devoted husband who delighted in making her happy. It made her feel young at heart and was always her favorite, even years later, when it was replaced with a newer gray one that still turned heads wherever she went. One of her greatest simple pleasures was being behind the wheel, enjoying the freedom and joy it brought her. In her later years, she faithfully devoted herself to caring for her own mother each day, a reflection of her selfless heart. She also treasured church trips with her dear friend Johnnie, creating memories that brought her lasting happiness.
Her love for animals was a special part of her life. In addition to her beloved dog, Precious, she found joy and companionship in caring for a wild deer she named Bambi, feeding and watching for it daily. These animals brought her comfort, purpose, and delight in her later years.
Peggy’s life was a beautiful reflection of love in action-shown in meals prepared, kindness given, laughter shared, and the quiet sacrifices she made for her family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family welcomes flowers, preferably fresh or silk arrangements. In addition, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County or the Council on Aging.
