Philip Oscar Whitaker, III, 62, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born May 1, 1951 in Union County, NC, son of Loyce Clontz Medlin and the late Philip Oscar Whitaker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Honeycutt Whitaker. He was an instructor and department chair for South Piedmont Community College, and was retired from the Army National Guard. Graveside services will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 12:45 to 1:45 prior to the service at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. In addition to his mother, Philip is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Slusher and her husband, Greg of Columbia, SC; a sister, Diane Dean of Albemarle, NC and grandchildren Elizabeth and Elijah.
