Rachel Delores Long passed away on Friday, September 12th after a long illness. Rachel was born on August 30, 1947, in Monroe, NC. She was predeceased by her parents Charlie J. Jenny Beatrice (Sis) Long, sister Betty Belk, and brother Walter C. (Tuck) Long. She is survived by sister Kathryn McBride, brother Tom Long and wife Lorraine, sister-in-law Mildred Long, brother Jim Long and wife Louise, and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Rachel was a much loved daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend. Rachel worked for years in banking before she moved to Teledyne Allvac where she worked in the lab until she retired. She loved sports, especially softball. She coached a women’s team, the Hustlers, and led them to win a state championship. She was a cyclist and rode to Myrtle Beach with her team to raise money for MS. Her greatest love was music and she spent many happy hours listening to music and sharing it with others. There will be a gathering for family and friends to celebrate and remember the life of Rachel who will be greatly missed, beginning with a visitation from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC, 28112. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 550, Charlotte, NC, 28210. Gordon Funeral Service Crematory is caring for the Long family.
