Raymond Casner of Monroe, NC, formally of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at his home with his bride of 79 years by his side. He was born in Fort Bragg, NC, on June 30, 1925, son of the late Sefton Grant Casner and Maude Belle VanWinkle Casner. He also was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Sefton Casner, brothers, James G. Casner, Jerome Casner and Leonard Casner and sisters, Bonnie Jean Casner Hovis and Doris (Cassie) Viola Casner Walker.

He served his country from 1943-1945 in WWII as a Paratrooper (PIR). Raymond was in the 101st Airborne Division and jumped in Holland on September 17, 1944, during Operation Market Garden. He was wounded in the “Battle of Best.”

Raymond began his career with Mecklenburg County, NC in 1950 as a probation officer and held several positions over the years. He served as Assistant County Manager of Mecklenburg County from 1974 until his retirement in 1985.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great- grandfather, brother-in-law and uncle, Raymond is survived by his loving wife Geraldine (Gerry) Mullis Casner, daughter Sandra (Sandy) Casner, son Steven (Steve) Casner, grandchildren Gerilyn Suggs-Utter, Rebecca S. Orman, Cooper Casner and Graham Casner, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, brother-in-law W. Scott Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a long-time devoted member of First Baptist Church of Monroe, NC and served the church in various capacities until health issues prevented his participation.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends and family immediately following the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 109 W. Morrow Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
