Rev. Bruce Mcdonald Powell

November 30, 1953 — December 20, 2021

Reverend Bruce McDonald Powell, 68, of Wesley Chapel, NC, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 20, 2021. He was the pastor at Siler Presbyterian Church since 1992. Bruce loved the Lord and loved being a pastor. He had a heart for discipleship and nurturing others in God’s Word. A celebration of life service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Siler Presbyterian Church, 6301 Weddington-Monroe Rd, Wesley Chapel, NC 28104. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Bruce was born on November 30, 1953 in Whiteville, NC. He grew up in Wallace, NC and loved the small-town life. Bruce earned his Eagle Scout in 1971 and graduated from Wallace-Rose Hill High School in 1972. He served in the United States Air Force from October 1972-June 1976. After leaving the Air Force, Bruce attended Montreat-Anderson Junior College where he met his wife, Carrie. He graduated in 1978 and went to Western Kentucky University to finish his undergraduate degree. Bruce and Carrie married in August 1979, graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1980 and moved on to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in the Boston, MA. He received his Masters of Divinity Degree in May 1983. Bruce served as pastor at Walkersville Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw, NC from 1983-1992 and at Siler Presbyterian Church, Wesley Chapel, from 1992 until the present. Bruce is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carrie Wolfenden Powell; two sons, Chris Powell and wife Brooke, of Parkersburg, WV; Jason Powell and wife Keri, of Salisbury, NC; four grandsons, Knox Powell, Emmett Powell, Greyson Powell, CJ Powell. He is also survived by one brother, David Powell and wife Donna, of Advance, NC; nieces, Kristin Blakley and Calli Wolfenden; nephews, Ryan Powell, Austin Powell, Brad Graham, Brent Wolfenden, Justin Wolfenden, David Wolfenden, Evan Wolfenden, Zach Wolfenden, Noah Wolfenden, Keegan Wolfenden, Alex Maples. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, David and Juanita Powell and sister, Connie Graham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Siler Presbyterian Church, 6301 Weddington-Monroe Rd, Wesley Chapel, NC 28104. Gordon Funeral Service & Crematory of Monroe is caring for the Powell family.
