Richard Charles Lane, 85, of Charlotte died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville. He was born in Ottawa, Canada on September 25, 1921. Mr. Lane spent his childhood in Sandy Hook, Conn., returning to Canada during WWII to serve in the Royal Canadian Navy. After service he attended nursing school in Queens, NY and graduated from anesthesia school at Albany Medical School in Albany, NY. He worked as a CRNA in Albany, NY, Martinsville, Va., Stuart, VA, Myrtle Beach, SC and Kings Mountain, NC before his retirement. Mr. Lane was a life-long member of the Elks Club, having served as the Exalted Ruler, the Lions Club and a Mason. He loved fishing, gardening, reading, playing the harmonica and spending time with his children. He was a life-long learner, always interested in the world around him. A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr., Matthews, NC 28104. Visitation will follow at the home of Robin Cooke in Weddington. Mr. Lane is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Barazone Lane of Matthews, NC 2 daughters, Robin Lane Cooke of Weddington, and Leslye Ann Lane of Mooresville, 2 granddaughters, Allison Cooke of Hernedon, VA and Meredith Cooke of Weddington, 3 brothers, Stuart Lane of Rocky Mount, NC, Thomas and Selwyn Lane of New Hampshire and one sister, Edith Lane of Maine. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Richard Lane. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Carmel Presbyterian Church, Youth ministry, 2048 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.
