Richard Stamey Phillips, loving husband and father, 54, died May 27, 2008 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was born in Union County, NC on March 25, 1954 son of William Stamey and Frances Tomberlin Phillips. Rick was a Union County Public school teacher for 29 years and was Chairman of the English Department at Piedmont High School. He was a strong Christian, a member at Lakeview Baptist Church for 22 years where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He would eat, sleep and breathe Carolina Basketball. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Lakeview Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Stamey and Frances Phillips of Monroe, wife, Debra Hinson Phillips, son, Brandon Richard Phillips and wife Christy, daughter, Ashley Brooke Phillips all of Unionville, brother Tim Phillips and wife Gayle of Indian Trail, grandchildren, Olivia Grace Whitley, Connor Brandon Phillips and Caleb Brandon Phillips. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Lakeview Baptist Church, 4602 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110.
