Dateline: Monroe, N. C. Mr. Richard Edwin Sims, 84, of Monroe, died Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews. He was born in Union County, N. C. on July 26, 1918 son of the late William Jackson and Laura Peay Sims. He was a US Army WW II veteran, a former Union County Sheriff’s Deputy and retired Manager of the Monroe ABC Stores. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 P. M. in Lakeland Memorial Park, conducted by Rev. Bill Fogarty. Mr. Sims is survived by his wife, Inez Pierce Sims, sons, Richard E. Sims, Jr., of Waxhaw, David L. Sims of Monroe, brothers, Don Sims of Greenville, S. C., Alex Sims of Lancaster, S. C., and Milton Sims of Waxhaw, sister, Hope Sims of Waxhaw, grandchildren, Brian Sims of Knoxville, Tennessee, John Sims of Waxhaw, Gina Holley of Atlanta, Georgia and Michelle McCall of Charlotte and great grandsons, Christopher and Jonathan Sims.
