Mr. Richard Arthur Dick Wall, 94, of 6920 Marching Duck Drive, Charlotte, formerly of Port Washington, NY, died at Presbyterian Hospital on April 30, 2013. Mr. Wall was born December 14, 1918, in Brooklyn, NY and was raised in Hollis, Queens, NY where he graduated from Jamaica High School. He graduated in 1941 from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine where he was the president of his class. Mr. Wall married his high school sweetheart, Adele Loecher in September, 1941 and they were married for over 72 years. He served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. Mr. Wall worked for Mobil Oil Company from 1942-1982, eventually as International Marine Sales Manager. In his work with Mobil, Mr. Wall circumnavigated the globe numerous times. In addition to his job with Mobil Oil, Mr. Wall was a college football referee for 28 years with the Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Football Officials (EAIFO). During those years, he had many friendly and not-so-friendly run-ins with Penn State football coach Joe Paterno. During his 30 year retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, swimming in the ocean and socializing with friends and family. Mr. Wall will be remembered for his friendly, easy, outgoing manner. He was a master raconteur and seemed to have a joke for every occasion. He is survived by his wife, Adele Skip Wall, his three sons, Rick, Ron and Randy, daughters-in-law, Betsy Birkner and Wyma Wall and five grandchildren, Andrew, Hollis, Anita, Leo Wall and Danien Vazquez. A private family service will be held at a later date.
