Rita Lynn Rowell

Dateline: Monroe, NC Rita Lynn Rowell, 48, died Monday, February 25, 2008. She was born in Orlando FL, daughter of Delores Rorie Griffin and the late Walter Blair Rorie, Sr. She was a UNC-Charlotte graduate, a member of West Monroe Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and Awana leader, and a volunteer with the Red Cross. Mrs. Rowell was formerly a fourth-grade teacher at Western Union Elementary School. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in West Monroe Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Mrs. Rowell is survived by her mother, Delores Rorie Griffin and step-father C.B. Griffin, her husband, J. R. Rowell, a son, Kane Rowell and a daughter, Melody Rowell both of the home, three brothers, Butch Rorie of Pineville and Dennis Rorie and Jesse Rorie, both of Monroe, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leonard and Estelle Rowell of Monroe. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 28, 2008 from 6 – 8 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
