Robert "Bob" Benson

Dateline: Monroe, NC The Reverend Robert Cecil Benson “Bob”, 89, died June 28, 2009 in Monroe, N.C. He was born May 18, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama. Rev. Benson graduated from Trinity Seminary in Chicago in 1959 and attended Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA. In Monroe, Rev. Benson was Pastor of Lee Park Presbyterian Church, USA and Beulah Presbyterian Church. He was honorably retired by the Presbytery of Charlotte. He also served churches in Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee prior to coming to Monroe. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 1:30 at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. The family will receive friends following the service. Rev. Benson was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Daisy Brigdon Benson and a sister, Dorothy Eaton. He is survived by his wife, Jean T. Benson, daughters, Gwendolyn Benson of Monroe and Jennifer Benson of Charlotte, brothers, Clarence Benson of Alabama, Henry Benson of Massachusetts, Frank Benson and wife Kay of Georgia and a sister, Gail Mead of Florida.
