Robert William Engel

Robert William Engel, 88, of Monroe, NC passed away Monday, May 31, 2021. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 11, 1933, son of William and Marjorie Engel. Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy K. Engel, and their three children, Patricia A. Engel, Susan E. Hagarty, and Robert A. Engel, wife Jennifer; all of Monroe, grandchildren, Kristen Hagarty-Waite, husband Bryan of Durham, NC, Julia Hagarty of Washington, DC, Garrett Engel of Monroe and Grant Engel of Monroe. Bob served in the Naval Air Force during the Korean War. Bob along with his father moved the family business, ORO Manufacturing Company from Adrian, Michigan to Monroe, NC in 1961. He served as President of the company until his passing. Not only was he President, but also served as a mentor and guiding force to his three children who are active in the management of the family business. He also served on the Board of Directors of North Carolina National Bank (NCNB), and was one of the original organizers of Rolling Hills Country Club and also served as its President in 1973.
