Robert Troy Gamble, 90, of Monroe, NC passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. He was born in Union County on September 2, 1933, son to the late Robert Cecil Gamble and Lula Faye McManus Gamble. He is also preceded by his son Edward Eddie Gamble, and brother Raeford Gamble.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30PM until 1:45PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
When Troy was a young boy, he would wake up at 3:00AM in the morning and ride his bike to the service station, where he rolled papers, and delivered them, after his route was complete, he went to school. Troy graduated from Walter Bicket High School, as well as Kings Business College, where he would ride the bus to Charlotte and returned to work for his mentor, Bill Preslar. He drove a truck for Mr. Preslar and delivered groceries, he made lots of friends along this route. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, where he served as the Chief Finance Officer of the 3rd division infantry.
Troy started his career with Liberty Life Insurance in July of 1955, he finished number four in the company at age 22 and was promoted to Sales Manager. He then finished number three as Sales Manager during his first four years. In July of 1960 he was appointed to District Manager of the district office in Albemarle, NC, that at the time was ranked 64th in the company and within 6 months he took it to number 1 in the company. He led the company for the next 18 months and transferred to Monroe, NC, which at that time was 52nd in the company. The first year they finished in 11th place and for the next 20 years he led the company for 16 years and finished in the top 5 the other years. During his time in management, he hired and trained 40 employees who later were promoted to management. He also promoted the first female to management. Troy was promoted to Regional Directors and retired as Vice President. Troy had an extensive education and was also a graduate of LUTC I, II and LUTC Fellow, C.L.U., as well as 87th and 122nd LIAMA School of Management, 205th and 216th LIAMA School of Home Office management. He served on the panel for LIAMA Management in Dallas, TX, and San Fransico, CA, where the subject was recruiting and selection. These meetings consisted of 2000 home and field officers. He was an LUTC Instructor for 5 years, he was a guest writer for insurance salesman and district management. He was also a guest speaker for Life Under Writing Association. Troy received several plaques that hung in the Liberty Life Office, calling him a Living Legend and has broken records that will never be caught up with.
He loved his pets, Major, Scottie, and Old Hitler. He loved working in his yard. He took pride in his career and “His Men” will all tell you; he was fair, and he never ask of them what he had not yet done himself. He was respected in the Liberty Life Insurance Company.
Troy is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Nettie Dean Covington Gamble, son, Gordie Gamble (Karen), three daughters; Sherry Gamble Ingle (Tony), Resa Gamble Treadaway (Sam), Susan Gamble Barringer (Mark), eleven grandchildren; Bradley Stephens, Matthew McCauley, Blake Ingle, Tyler Treadaway, David Treadaway, Casey Gamble, Weston Gamble, Austin Gamble, Christopher Outen, Jordan Outen and Claire Adams, and 10 great-grandchildren.
