Dateline: Matthews, NC Robert Johnson Manus, 72, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 10, 2010 after a short illness, surrounded by his family. He was born December 7, 1937 in Union County, son of the late Thomas Neal and Nellie Helms Manus. He was a carpenter and farmer by trade. He was known by many people throughout the county for his fresh vegetables and especially for his tomatoes. He loved his family very much. Funeral services will be Monday, June 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends Sunday, June 13, 2010 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Manus McCoy and Linda Manus Keziah. Mr. Manus is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Whiteside Manus; daughters, Nancy Morse and husband Mike, Kathy Medlin and husband Neal, and Brenda Manus, a son, Chris Manus and fiancee, Stacey Norris, brother, Walter Manus and wife Donnie; five grandchildren, Scott Morse and wife Tiffany, Tim Morse, Neal Medlin, Jonathan Medlin, Ashley Benton and husband Matt; three great-grandchildren, Landon Morse, Anthony Medlin and Tylor Benton.
