Dateline: Monroe, NC Dr. Robert E. McAdams, 82, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011. He was born in Hudson, Colorado on January 2, 1929 to Thomas and Mamie McAdams. Robert started school in Hudson, Co. and later moved to Greeley, Co with his family. There he met the love of his life, Lois Murrow and they were married on August 20th, 1950. Not long after they were married, Robert joined the US Army and served in the Korean war. Robert quit school in the 9th grade to help support his family and later joined the military. While serving, he was able to pass all testing and receive his high school diploma. When Robert returned home, he started school at Colorado State and graduated with a 4 year degree in physics. Robert and Lois then moved to Iowa where he continued his education in physics and graduated with his doctorate in 1964. Robert then took the position as a professor of physics at Utah State University in Logan, Utah and that is where he and Lois made their home until 2008. At that point they moved to Monroe, NC to live out their retirement. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 1:00 until 1:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112 followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. He leaves behind a long line of people that he has made an impact on with his love for the Lord, caring and compassionate ways, and willingness to help anyone in need. We were blessed and privileged to call him friend and family and he touched our hearts and lives in a way that will last forever. He will be greatly missed. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Mamie McAdams, a young brother, Danny McAdams, a sister, Ruby Anderson. Robert is survived by his wife, Lois McAdams, 2 nieces, Beverly Newgen (Boyd) of Ontario, OR; Alice Horne (Dennis) of Peachland, NC; a nephew, Steven Anderson of Ontario, OR, 3 great-neices,1 great-nephew, and 14 great-great-nieces and nephews.
