Robert “Pete” Mitchell Griffin, 89, of Monroe, NC passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. He was born in Union County, NC on November 21, 1936, son to the late John Floyd Griffin and Ruth McManus Griffin. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Morton Griffin, four brothers, Jim Griffin, John Parks Griffin, Louie Griffin, Dillon Griffin, and four sisters, Josephine Richardson, Nora Lee “Betty” Abernathy, Mary Massey, Rachel Lilse.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Mt Zion Baptist Church, 6907 Gus Eubanks Rd, Monroe, NC 28112, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00PM until 1:45PM in the church sanctuary.

Pete is survived by his son, Mitchell Griffin, daughter, Sonya Coogan (Matt), two grandchildren, Camryn Coogan, Chloe Coogan, and brother, Carroll Wayne Griffin.

He dedicated many years of his life as a lineman supervisor at the General Telephone Company, while also faithfully serving his community as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Mt Zion Baptist Church.
