Robert Scott Smith

Mr. Robert Scott Smith, 66, of Monroe, NC passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer on Tuesday, September 10, 2019. He was born March 7, 1953, in Lancaster, SC, to the late Robert Wade and Dean Smith. He is also preceded in death by his sister Robbie Strohecker. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Gordon Funeral Service 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe NC 28112. The family will receive friends following the service. Scott was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather. He was married for 47 years to the love of his life, Wendy Smith; together they had two daughters, Amy Smith Medlin and Carrie Smith Overcash. He was a wonderful role model to his 6 grandchildren, Annalyce Medlin, Chase Overcash, Isabelle Medlin, Keigan Overcash, Lochlyn Overcash, Olivia Medlin and his faithful dog Baxter. He is also survived by a brother Dr. Garriet Smith (Brigitte) of Aiken, SC, and a sister Cindy Day (Bud Smith) of Rock Hill, SC. He grew up in Charleston, SC, as well as Columbia SC, where he graduated from Spring Valley High School. He was member of the United States Air force for 6 years with an honorable discharge. Scott retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in 2004.
