Robert Dean “Tim” Williams, 81, of Monroe, passed away on September 4th, 2021 at Atrium Health Union after a brief illness. Born in 1940, Tim was the son of Grady Valentine Williams and Sarah Ann Strawn Williams. A 1958 graduate of Union High School, Tim married his loving wife, Lynda, on October 7, 1961. He spent four years in the U.S. Army National Guard. Tim began his banking career in the mailroom at North Carolina National Bank in Charlotte before working in a number of roles at American Bank and Trust in Monroe. He finished his career as the Senior Investment Officer for United Carolina Bank in Whiteville, NC. Though Tim and Lynda lived in Whiteville for nearly 20 years, they moved back to their original home in the Unionville community in 1999 where they enjoyed retirement. Tim was an active member of Benton Heights Presbyterian Church in Monroe and was a long time deacon at the First Baptist Church of Whiteville and Mill Creek Baptist Church in Monroe. Tim is survived by three daughters: Lynn (Sam) Lewis of Monroe; Lori (Jagath) Kodikara of Indian Trail; and Jennifer (Paul) Baxley of Athens, GA; nine adoring grandchildren: John and Maggie Lewis, Samantha, Seth, and Shea Kodikara, and Livy, Maria, Matthew and Caroline Baxley; he is also survived by sisters Patsy Moore and Nancy (Ralph) Bivens, and a brother, Jimmy Williams, as well as sisters-in-law Mae Dean Williams and Doris Williams; Tim is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Tim was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lynda Price Williams, an infant grandson, William Lewis IV, a son-in-law, Robert Hoerning, and siblings Alice Williams, Clayton Williams, Grady Williams, Jr., Helen Hargett, Margaret Mills, Annie Lee Hill, Johnny Williams, Bill Williams, and Gene Williams. Tim was a friend to many, a steady force in the lives of his family, and a faithful child of God-always armed with a quick joke or a quiet act of generosity. A funeral service to honor Tim’s life will be held at Benton Heights Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Saleeby, Dr. Roger Gilbert, and Rev. Eddie Price officiating. Burial will follow the service at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Service, Due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in our community, the family requests that all visitors wear masks while indoors.
