Roger Lynn Drake

July 31, 1957 — February 14, 2023

Roger Lynn Drake, 65, of Monroe, NC passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. He was born in Union County on July 31, 1957 son to the late James Fairley Drake Jr. and Betty Lee Polk Drake. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Bennett Polk.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, February 17, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church, 5928 New Salem Road, Marshville, NC 28103, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall.

Lynn was a dedicated husband, married to his high school sweetheart for 46 years. He was an attentive and active Father and Pawpaw, attending all church and sporting events with them. But most of all, he was the one who was called when something was broken, a problem needed to be solved or a project was underway! Instead of searching Google, his kids & grandkids would call Dad/Pawpaw, he was a jack-of-all-trades. He was also an endearing brother, who loved his sister and two brothers.

Lynn worked faithfully for 44 years at LA Simpson Machine Company, where he started as a machinist and worked his way up to Plant Manager.

He loved the Lord and was a devoted and active member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 35 yrs, where he loved to teach Sunday School, served as Deacon and sang in the Choir. He also sang with some very dear friends in a group (where they could never decide on a Group Name) so they unofficially became "Still Waiting!"

He loved spending time with his family, woodworking, golfing, mowing his lawn, projects in the yards, reading and studying God's Word and you would find him nowhere else on Sunday mornings, than in the House of God.

He was such a humble, kindhearted man, loved by all who met him.

He victoriously won his battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease on February 14th. He had fought this battle since March 2021. He is no longer in pain - but he is now made whole!

Lynn is survived by his loving wife Vickie Benton Drake, daughter Kari Drake Croasmun (Dac), son Chad Drake (Amy), sister Peggy Polk, brothers, Steve Drake (Vivian); and Wayne Drake (Chris); six grandchildren, Luke Croasmun (Hannah); Grace Purser (Justin); Nick Drake; Brady Drake; Addy Drake; Evan Drake; and one great-granddaughter Braylee Mae Croasmun.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 5928 New Salem Road, Marshville, NC 28103 or ALS Association NC Chapter, 4 N. Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.
