Roger E. Williams, 88, of Monroe, NC passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024. He was born in Union County on April 28, 1935 son to the late Reece A. Williams and Cortez Carlan Williams. He was also preceded in death by his brother Wayne Williams and sister Jackie Sells.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Lakeview Baptist Church, 4602 Concord Hwy, Monroe, NC 28110 with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:15 PM in the church sanctuary.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma Whitley Williams of the home, a son Tony E. Williams and wife Lisa, a daughter Lisa Williams Medlin and husband Joe, all of Monroe. One grandson Brandon Braswell, wife Christie of Monroe, two granddaughters, Carlan Braswell Santana and husband Jeremy, of Kershaw SC, and Arlee Williams of Monroe. Three great-grandchildren; Graycee and Tanner Lewis and Maddox Santana, two sisters, Wanda Schmid of Maryland and Wendy Medlin of Monroe, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In the early years of their marriage, Roger drove an oil truck and loved to tell about each and every house he delivered to “Back in the Day”. He went on to work as an auto mechanic at Firestone and Goodyear Tires of Monroe for many years. Later he went to work at PPI selling insulation and was top salesman for several years. He retired from PPI at the age of 74.
Roger worked hard and played hard as well. Every chance he got he was playing golf at Eagle Chase Golf Course, where he was one of the original investors.
Roger was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Roger loved his little dog Coco. Coco slept at his feet every night and on his lap every day. He would sneak whatever he was eating under the table for Coco.
While we lost a great husband and father, many have lost a great friend. He has been a rock to many, a master of sarcastic humor and witty timing to others. There was so much more to him than just a husband and father, though to us that was his greatest role; he was a friend, a co-worker and colleague, a cousin, brother, uncle, and awesome golfer, ball player, archer, a great hunter and the list goes on and on.
We invite you all to share pictures and memories. It would be his wish that we laugh, reminisce, and smile together during this time.
