Roland Rone Glenn, 86, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at CHS-Union. He was born November 11, 1930 in or near Tampa, FL, younger son to the late Callie Annie Bell Rone Glenn. He is also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Glenn, who died in infancy; a sister Myra Micallef; and a cousin, Dorothy C. Williams. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday January 30, 2017 in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Waxhaw Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Glenn is survived by his wife Maggie Lou Adams Glenn; two sons James Roland Glenn and David Roland Glenn; a daughter Mary Lynn Glenn, all of Waxhaw; a brother Neil Glenn and wife Gail of Marvin; a cousin, Iris Davis of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Ashley Glenn; and one great-grandchild. Mr. Glenn was in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955 and was in the Korean Conflict in 1953. He was in Japan, too. He never forgot Morse Code, which he used and heard in radio operation. His highest rank was Sergeant, in artillery. A 1949 graduate of Waxhaw High School, he went to night school at Queens College for a few years after his time in the Army. Some Christians can point to a time of receiving salvation and stating their dedication of their lives to God. For him, that came at a revival or church service in the town of Waxhaw when he was a boy or young man-possibly Waxhaw United Methodist Church. In 2004 a surgeon removed a Stage 4 tumor from Mr. Glenn’s spine, followed by Mr. Glenn’s striving to regain his ability to walk strongly. Thank God for his full recovery, including walking, and for his extra 12 or more years of life. Roland R. Glenn loved his family and they loved him. Friends loved him too. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Waxhaw Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 8213 Old Waxhaw-Monroe Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173.
