Ronald "Ron" Edward Rutherford

July 25, 1943 — January 29, 2025

Ronald “Ron” Edward Rutherford, 81, of Marshville, NC passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. He was born in Tampa, FL, on July 25, 1943, son of the late Edward Morris and Murlene Hammond Rutherford. He is also preceded by his son Bobby Rutherford and brother-in-law, Gary Taylor.


A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at East Campus of the First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, 6140 W. Marshville Blvd., Marshville, NC 28103, burial with Military Honors, will follow in Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, 2817 Mt. Harmony Church Road, Matthews, NC 28105.


The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.


Ron was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Matthews Masonic Lodge and former President of the Marshville Chamber of Commerce. He worked for Mid Continent/Alltel Corporation for over 30 years and he went on to enjoy many different careers such as a Motorcycle Safety Instructor, UCPS Activity Bus Driver and Drivers Education Instructor. He also owned and operated Lanes Creek Alpaca Farm, Flossie’s Funnel Cakes and Cinn-Sane Cinnamon Rolls.


In Ron’s early years, he coached youth sports, officiated basketball and umpired baseball and softball games. He was a member of the NC Goldwing Precision Drill Team, where he earned the nickname “Crash.” He delivered food to local schools through the East Campus Backpack Ministry and Food For Families NC, Inc. He was a faithful servant to the Lord and loved his family, country and his church. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, riding motorcycles and watching the grandkids play sports or teaching them to drive. He also enjoyed playing Sequence and Dominos with friends.

He loved the outdoors and sitting on the front porch, watching the sunrise and the beauty of God’s creation. He is dearly loved by all who knew him and will be missed tremendously.


Ron is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Pamela Taylor Rutherford, as well as three sons, Eddie Rutherford (Francine), Shane Rutherford (Tara), Ronnie Rutherford (Jennifer); daughter, Stephanie Gillespie (Jamar); “adopted sons” Steve Widner, and Lynn High (Wendy); brother Mike Rutherford (Pat); sisters-in-law, Vera High (Joel), and Doris Taylor; grandchildren, Julieona, Jett, Addison, Charley, Maddie, Katie, Noah, Christian, Grace, Elijah, Ella, Madeline, Henry, Shawn, Vanessa, Jessie, Robbie, Michael, Teresa; as well as 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
