Ronald Colin Hough, better known as Ronnie or PawPaw, was many things: a husband, daddy, and wonderful PawPaw. These were all roles he loved and cherished, especially when it came to providing for and protecting his family - what he called “taking care of us.” Ronnie also loved cars (especially Fords, of course) and enjoyed Nascar, which he could talk about for hours. Ronnie was a hard worker, honest, kind, and faithful, which all are traits that he passed on to his two daughters.
Ronnie and Peggy (née Chastain) were high school sweethearts. They married in April 1959, when he was 20 and she was 18. When Ronnie passed, they were just one week short of celebrating 65 wonderful years of marriage. Ronnie learned early in life that he had to work hard to provide for a wife and two daughters. One of his early jobs was shoveling coal at Monroe Ice and Fuel but he soon learned that heating and air conditioning was his talent. He poured himself into working in heating and air and became one of the best servicemen in town. He loved getting to know his customers and would readily help them when called - any hour of the day or night, no matter the weather.
Early in 1962, Ronnie made the best decision in his life. He had a friend who invited him to church, and he accepted that invitation. Something sparked him to keep attending church services and a few months later he asked Jesus to forgive his sins. He made a CHOICE to live his life serving God, his family, and the church. Ronnie and Peggy joined Cornerstone Community Nazarene Church in 1963. Ronnie was a server and a giver - a hands-on person. He and Peggy worked in the church faithfully. Ronnie drove the church bus, going in neighborhoods picking up anyone who needed a ride. He served as the junior boys Sunday school teacher, worked with the teen group, and served on the church board most of his life. Ronnie was a gentle soul who loved to get to know people and would help out anyone in need. He wanted everyone to know the love of God. Ronnie would want anyone reading this today to know that you will never regret loving your family with all your heart and giving your heart to the Lord Jesus. For all these reasons and many more, Ronnie will be deeply missed.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Peggy Chastain Hough, and their two daughters, Tammy Daugherty (Richard) and Cheryl Plyler, sister Joyce Outen, and five grandchildren, Meredith Jiang (David), Natalie Grimaud (Geoff), David Plyler (Bethany), Stacie Boatright (Charles), and Clifton Ronald Daugherty as well as eight great-grandchildren.
