Ronald James Tain passed away on December 9, 2024, at the age of 86 after a long history of heart disease. Ron was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 17, 1938. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served both in the USAF and the Missouri Air National Guard for a total of 23 years. When he retired he continued to work on many highly classified ground, sea, and air programs.
A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at Siler Presbyterian Church on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 3:00 PM, 6301 Weddington Rd, Matthews, NC 28104. There will be a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Ron enjoyed flying private airplanes and had his commercial pilot’s license. He had many hobbies including duck carving and leather crafting. He was well known around the Union County area for making holsters, knife sheaths, belts, and gun cases.
Ron was an active member and former RSO of the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club; a member of the NRA; and a member of the Waxhaw American Legion Post 208.
Ron and his wife Susie (Lorraine) are active members of Siler Presbyterian Church in Wesley Chapel, NC. Ron especially loved and actively participated in the Men of the Church Bible Study on Saturday mornings.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susie (Lorraine) and children; Deanna Boyd, Chris Tain (Janet), Rona Tain, Linda DeCesare (Daryl), Jim Castelletti (Laurent), and Laura Castelletti. Grandchildren; Jaunna Tain, Danielle Rigo (Travis), Daryl Lynn DeCesare, Dayna Milley (Hayden). And great grandchildren; James Rigo, Madison Rose Rigo, and Colton Milley.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Tunnels to Towers or your own favorite charitable organization would be appreciated.
