Elder Roy Emerson Speir, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015. He was born in Fulton County, GA on August 2, 1926, son of the late Stephen Alexander and Sarah Jinks Speir. He was preceded in death by seven siblings. Elder Speir served in the U. S. Navy in the Philippines during World War II. After the Navy, he graduated from Oglethorpe University and served several Primitive Baptist congregations in Georgia and North Carolina for over forty years. Funeral services will be Friday, November 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at High Hill Primitive Baptist Church, officiated by Elder Larry Austin and followed by burial in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will visit with friends and relatives Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC. Elder Speir is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy Outen Speir; sons, Kenneth and Michelle Speir of Newnan, GA, Timothy and Pam Speir of Monroe and Mark and Paige Speir of Cullowhee, NC; grandchildren, (Joel) and Ashleigh Kimmel, Zeb, Jackson, Sarah, Lindsay, Zack and Alyssa Speir; great-grandchild, Holland Kimmel and a sister, Sara Anderson of Stockbridge, GA.
