Roy Eugene “Gene” Trotter Jr. , 62, of Monroe, NC passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Randolph County, NC on August 8, 1963, son to the late Roy Eugene Trotter and Lois Wilkerson Trotter, and was later adopted by his stepmother, Brenda Lawson Trotter.

Gene was a man who dedicated his life to hard work and family. As a young man, he worked in brick masonry alongside his father and brother. He moved to Monroe in 1985 where he briefly worked at Lowe’s Hardware before dedicating 35 years as a salesman for Contractors Building Supply (The Building Center). Gene was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tarheels and enjoyed watching sports or playing golf on his days off. He spent many years coaching baseball, football, and basketball for Piedmont Recreation. Gene loved to spend time by the water, including fishing, boating, or soaking up the sun. Gene was a lover of classic cars and treasured his 1969 Corvette Stingray.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kimberly Mullis Trotter, three sons, Trevor Trotter, Zack Trotter (Tiffany), Wesley Trotter, one daughter, Katy Dixon (Davis), and one brother, Kenneth Trotter (Sandy). Gene is also survived by three grandchildren, Reagan Trotter, Dean Trotter, Charlotte Dixon, and a baby girl expected in late December.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30PM on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service located at 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family would like to thank the nurses and providers at Levine Cancer Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Atrium Union for the care they provided for Gene during his time of need.
