Roy Clegg Williams

Mr. Roy Clegg Williams, age 84, of Monroe, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 26, 2018. He was born April 16, 1933 in Union County to the late Roy Williams and Odessa Bailey Williams. Roy was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Alma Helms Williams; brother, Olin Williams; sister, Eula Mae Thomas; granddaughter, Donna Horne and son-in-law Don Horne. A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Grace Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Joe Haskett. Burial with military honors will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Roy was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He spent the majority of his working years working at Weyerhauser Box Company in Charlotte as a machine operator. Roy served in the U.S. Army Engineering Corp. and was part of the Germany campaign post-war. Roy was always an avid outdoor person who loved to fish, garden and tend his yard. Roy is survived by daughters, Gail W. Horne and Wanda W. Love (Mitchel); sons, Gary Williams and Stoney Williams (Darla); sisters, Lorraine W. Kiker (Paul) and Edith W. Sutton; brother, David Williams (Gladys); six grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren, and special friend, Laura Ann Love. Roy will be deeply missed but we celebrate his homecoming until we all meet again.
