Ruford (Fred) Spivey, age 88, of Matthews NC, previous residence Sanford NC, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, surrounded by family.

Fred was born on June 30,1938, in Harnett County to Nick and Edna Spivey. Throughout his life, Fred was known for kindness, generosity, sense of humor, faith, dedication to family, career, and community.

Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather(papa), great-grandfather, brother, friend and cherished the time spent with family and friends. Some of his greatest joys included playing golf, serving his church and seeing his grandchildren and great-grand girls. He will be remembered for being a spiritual leader to his family.

Fred is survived by his wife Margaret Spivey of 67 years, Chris Spivey (son) and wife, Sandra Spivey, Grandchildren Colby Spivey and wife Morgan (children) Saylor and Sophie. Colin Spivey and wife Molly (child) Ruthie. Grandson Clay Spivey. Tammy Blackwelder (daughter) sons, Derek and Jamie Blackwelder. Sister, Hazel Nickens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Edna and son in law Jeff Blackwelder.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation, love and support to the ICU caregivers at Atrium Union West in Stallings.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, 8533 Cox Mill Road, Sanford NC 27332.

Fred leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, friendship, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
