Russell Wilburn Pope, 89 of Mint Hill, NC passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024. He was born in Catawba County, NC on May 29, 1934. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Ronda Richardson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service. The family will receive friends following the service at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory,

Russell is survived by his loving wife, Norma Crawford Pope, daughters, Crystal Belsky (Bob); and Kara Yancey (Wrenn); four grandchildren, Jake Thigpen (Hannah); Meghan Richardson; Drew Richardson; and Walker Yancey.

In the multi-faceted life of Russell Pope, there are threads of camaraderie, dedication, and joy. Russell's journey from Western Carolina University to a distinguished banking career spanning over three decades reflects his commitment to both personal growth and community service. His involvement in various organizations testified to his deep-rooted desire to make a positive impact. Russell's passion for golf, friendly card games, and sports brought much happiness, but it was the memory of teeing off on the ancient fairways of Scotland that stood out as a highlight. His laughter, fueled by a love for jokes and pranks, reminds us of the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. In the midst of the laughter, Russell was also loyal, cherishing his friendships, and holding them close to his heart. To him, friendship was not just a bond but a lifelong commitment. As a father and grandfather, he took pleasure in the warmth of family gatherings, finding happiness and contentment in spending time with his loved ones. Russell Pope, with his warmth, wit, and unwavering loyalty, leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him friend, father, or grandfather.
