Russell "Rusty" Wing

Lowell Russell “Rusty” Wing, 70, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son of Indian Trail, NC passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on May 15, 2023, at Atrium Union West Hospital in Stallings.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, 732 Indian Trail Fairview Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:30 PM until 6:45 PM in the church. The burial will be held privately for family only.

Russell was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on October 5, 1952. He attended Brownsburg High School and graduated, the class of 1971. He met Kathy Lee Lippard shortly after and fell deeply in love with her. They would be married on December 21, 1973, at Bethesda Baptist Church in Brownsburg, IN. Together they would have three sons, Bradley Todd Wing (1975), Lowell Cortney Wing (1978), & Anthony Russell Wing (1983). He would remain deeply in love with her right up until the end. He would pass into the next life holding her hand.

As the son of Lowell Ellis Wing (deceased) and Shirley Jean (Lady) Wing, Real Estate was providentially going to be in his blood. He would be licensed as a Realtor in Indiana in 1977 and would run Wing Real Estate with his father Lowell until he and Kathy and their three sons would move to North Carolina in December of 1989. In North Carolina, he would not only continue in his Real Estate career, but he would absolutely flourish. After working for a couple of different companies, Russell would end up working for the Allen Tate Company for over 20 years and would enjoy the highest accolades of his professional life with the Tate company. By the time he stepped away from practicing real estate fully in 2020, he would have a career that spanned 40+ years and seen him serve on numerous State committees and leadership roles, as well as selling and closing tens of thousands of homes and over $500,000,000 in production.

Upon moving to North Carolina, Russell and Kathy would visit First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, and it would become the church he would call home for the rest of his life. It would be the ministry of Pastor Mike Whitson, and his consistent proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, that would change Rusty for the rest of his life. At FBCIT, he would find a place to grow and serve, and a Christian family that would define the second half of life for him.

Rusty also had a passion for community involvement. He firmly believed that because God had blessed him so much, he should give back in whatever ways he could to others. His generosity is well known, and he gave frequently of his time and energy. Over the years, he was involved in the Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity, The ARC of Union County, the Union County Planning Board, Safer Community Ministries, and Family Fortress Ministries. He was also a lifelong lover of Southern Gospel music and was well-known within that community. He supported and encouraged countless missionaries, pastors, and evangelists along the way as well.

Russell is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Kathy Lee Wing; sons, Bradley Todd Wing and his wife Barbara, Lowell Cortney Wing and his wife Kristin, and Anthony Russell Wing and his wife Abby. Grandsons; Elijah (20), Seamus (8), Micah (4), and Granddaughters; Sarah Grace (16), Charlie Mae (7), and Ruby Jean (7 months). His sister Elayne Goodman and husband Rick, brother-in-law James Lippard and wife Karen, brother-in-law David Lippard, sister-in-law Karen Hannah and husband Roger, and his beloved mother, Shirley Jean Wing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Ellis Wing, his father-in-law Todd Lippard, his mother-in-law Kathleen Lippard, and his sister-in-law Laura Lippard.
