Ruth Efird Helms

Ruth Efird Helms, 89, of Unionville, NC passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022. She was born in Union County on August 22, 1932, daughter to the late Filas Cornelius Efird and Sallie Staton Efird. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Ray Kenneth Helms Sr., as well as four brothers, Forrest, Lloyd, Robert and Ben Efird, two sisters, Ann Simpson and Ramona Griffin. Ruth had a great passion for her family, she always claimed her most rewarding job in life was as a “domestic engineer”. Ruth and her husband, Ray, traveled all over the country in their RV and were proud members of the “Ramblin’ Rebels”. Ruth had a volunteering spirit, she spent countless hours working the Unionville BBQ, the Unionville Fourth of July event and as an election poll worker in Union County. She was a member of the Unionville Women’s Club and Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 7, 2022 at Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church, 109 E. Lawyers Rd., Monroe, NC 28110. Mrs. Helms will lie in state prior to the service from 10:00AM until 11:00AM. Burial will be private at Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. The family request that all in attendance please practice social distancing and wear a face covering. She is survived by her son, R. Kenneth Helms Jr. (Martha), daughters Lisa Helms Hibbs (Loren) and Sherrie Thomas Helms (Tommy) and sister Jane Waters, eight grandchildren, Morgan Foxx (Jon), Andrea Knight (Marshall), Harris, Caroline and Staton Helms, Lanie, Erin and Tyson Hibbs and three great-grandchildren Chevy Foxx, Phoenix Foxx and Raylan Knight. The family would like to thank Jesse Helms Nursing Facility for taking such great care of Mrs. Ruth Helms.
