Ruth Gaddy McCoy, age 91, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, in her home after a period of declining health. Her husband of 65 years, Dan McCoy, preceded her in death in 2007. She was devoted to her family as well as a quiet contributor of both her time and talents to many community organizations and friends. She was especially loyal to the American Red Cross and Central United Methodist Church day care for many, many years. A voracious reader, she was also a strong supporter of public libraries. She was deeply loved and much admired by her family. She is survived by a daughter, Gay Clyburn and her husband Steve of Redwood City, California; son Dan Jr., and his wife, Diana, of Monroe, and their two children, Morgan of the home and Matt of Charlotte; son Bruce, and his wife, Linda of Monroe, and their two daughters, Dr. Erin McCoy and her husband Joey Schumacher of Savannah, Ga., and Allison McCoy and Peter Kitchen, currently of Seattle Washington. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive visitors directly after the service at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
