Ms. Ruth Rebecca Becky Howell Sells, 75, died in the early morning hours of Friday, June 14, 2013, at her home as the result of a house fire. Ms. Sells was one of seven children. She was born August 17, 1938, in Anson County, daughter of the late Eddie Lee Threadgill Howell and Jones Edward Pete Howell, Sr. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Howell and Edward Howell, Jr., and a daughter to stillbirth in 1964. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 21, 2013 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM. She attended Anson High and was proud of being on the women's basketball team. She went on to receive licensing as a practical nurse. She was a longstanding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monroe, NC, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was confident, confrontational, and competitive and was known for being outspoken. She is survived by two daughters, Kenzia Cheryl Sells Lett and her husband Scott Lett of Monroe and Crystal Sells Hatley and her husband Warren Hatley of Albemarle. Ms. Sells has one granddaughter, Carly Nicole Lett Allman and her husband, Andrew, of Candler, NC; a brother, Robert Howell of Ansonville; three sisters, Nancy Hartsell of Concord, NC, Audrey Moore of Rockingham, NC and Lina Sikes of Ansonville, NC; many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces who all were very special to her.
