Ruth Evelyn Thompson

Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Thompson, 84, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born in Jackson County, GA on December 26, 1935 to the late Oscar and Lelia Gunter Fortner. She was also preceded in death by her husband William Russell Thompson, as well as six siblings. Ruth loved her Lord, her family and her church family. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Bible Baptist Tabernacle 2900 Walkup Ave, Monroe, NC 28110. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service from 2:00pm until 2:45pm in the church sanctuary. Ruth is survived by two sons, Wayne Thompson (Julie) and Stanley Thompson, daughter Bonnie Harris (Mike), brother Gene Fortner, six grandchildren, Kara Starnes, Katie Haywood, Kassie Clark, Anna Harris, Joshua Harris and Caleb Harris as well as six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Jessie Helms Nursing Center C/O Activity Fund, 1411 Dove Street, Monroe, NC 28112 or Hospice of Union County 700 Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28110.
