Sally Ann Davis Norris died peacefully at her home in Monroe, North Carolina on June 12, 2017 at the age of 64.
Sally is survived by her husband, Johnny Norris; children, L. Elizabeth Young, Kati Denise Norris, and Sarah Rebecca Norris; grandchildren, Abigail Nicole Norris-Young, and Emma Grace Young; sister, Brenda Davis Neely; and brothers, Horace Eugene Davis, Jr., and Michael Anthony Davis. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Davis Griffin; father, Horace Eugene Davis; and stepfather, William Griffin.
Sally was born on May 23, 1953 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Horace and Margaret Davis. Sally graduated from Olympic High School in 1971. Shortly thereafter, Sally relocated to Monroe, North Carolina where she managed the restaurant formerly known as “The Ranch House.” During a breakfast rush, Sally served scrambled eggs and grits to Johnny Norris; they would later fall in love and marry on December 14, 1974. In a three-and-a-half-year stretch, Sally and Johnny welcomed three girls, Laura, Kati, and Sarah. Sally, a loving yet stern parent, stressed the importance of hard work, education, and above all, compassionate kindness.
In 1999, Sally began working as a teacher’s assistant with Union County Public Schools. In her time as a teacher assistant, Sally served as president of the North Carolina Association of Teacher Assistants-Union County, and was once named Teacher Assistant of the Year for Union County. Sally retired from Union County Public Schools in May 2016. Of all the jobs Sally held in her life, she was most fulfilled by helping young students achieve their academic goals.
Sally was a devout Christian and a faithful attendee of Elevation Church at the time of her death. Sally was accomplished in cross-stitching and ceramics, and one of her favorite hobbies was interior design. Above all else, Sally cherished her family and valued spending quality time with them, especially her two precious granddaughters, Abby and Emma.
In May 2015, Sally was diagnosed with a very rare form of Bartholin cancer. Following a courageous two-year fight, Sally was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven.
