Sammy Glenn Hildreth passed into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, April 26, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Glenn was born on February 4, 1955 in Thomasville, North Carolina to his parents Joseph Clay Hildreth and Vernie Martin Hildreth. A private graveside service will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, friends and extended family may extend their condolences by visiting Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112 from 10:00am until 6:00pm on Thursday, April 30, 2020. He graduated from Forest Hills High School in Marshville, North Carolina in 1973. Glenn married Karen Laney on June 26, 1976. Glenn’s vocational career was centered upon being a finance manager as well as holding other management positions at a number of automobile dealerships. Next to his family, one of Glenn’s greatest loves was music. He learned piano at the age of four years and the guitar at age seven. The only string instrument he never mastered was the fiddle. Glenn played and sang gospel music with his family from age seven into adulthood. The family sang all over North Carolina and South Carolina. While in high school he was a member of the Forest Hills High School Choral Group and competed in several competitions up to the state level. After high school Glenn played and sang in several Bluegrass, Country, and Gospel groups. He was a vital member of the Bluegrass-Gospel Group, Village Green for more than 20 years and wrote several of the songs the group recorded and performed. Glenn is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Karen. He is also survived by his sons Cameron and Dustin Hildreth; four grandchildren: Bayleigh Hildreth, Laney Hildreth, Emme Hildreth, and Grayson Hildreth; one sister, Judy Hildreth Gamble (Rev. Donnie Gamble); and two brothers, Rev. Jack Hildreth (Debbie), and Tony Hildreth (Kim). Glenn was greatly loved by his surviving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary (Lib) Laney and sister-in-law Lou Ellen Smith (Darrell). In addition to his parents Glenn was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Louis Laney; two nieces, Lesley Nicole Hildreth and Donna Lavonne Gamble; and a great-nephew, Samuel Isaac Gamble.
