Mr. Samuel “Sam” Thomas, 81 of Monroe, NC passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was born in Union County, NC on April 6, 1940 son to the late Mark Hampton Thomas & Ida Howard Thomas. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Polly Hinson Thomas. He is also preceded in death by three brothers Bryce Thomas, Hoyle Thomas, and Earl Thomas, two sisters Jewel Starnes, & Doris Aderholt.

He worked as a licensed electrician. Sam was a Mason and served in the Masonic Lodge for over 25 years. He was a member of Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, and always went out of his way to help others. He enjoyed Classic Cars & playing softball.


A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives 12:00 PM until 12:45 PM prior to the funeral service at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.

He is survived by his sons, Bobby Thomas (Michelle) of Monroe, Rick Thomas (Tammy) of Myrtle Beach, grandchildren, April Thomas, Amanda Thomas, Jaimie Thomas and Sydney Carriker, one great grandchildren on the way Emma Jean Carriker, and lots of nieces and nephews.
