Samuel Dale Walkup, 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2018. He was born in Union County on March 3, 1930, born to the late Samuel Crawford Walkup and Ellen Wilson Walkup, he is also preceded in death by his wife Frances Belk Walkup, and eight siblings. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 12, 2018 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Rd, Waxhaw, NC 28173. Burial to follow in the church cemetery after the service. The family will receive friends at the church following the burial. He is survived by his son, Tim Walkup and wife Kim of Waxhaw; daughters, Dean Cox and husband Stephen of Conyers, and Patty Liles and husband Larry of Waxhaw; grandchildren, Jeremy, Amy, Nat, Brandon, Brad, Ryan, and Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Corey, Holden, Adah, Lawton, Braxton, and Justin; and one great-great-grandchild, Chase. Dale worked at Armour Meats in Charlotte for 22 years until he left to pursue his dreams of opening Frontier Meats in Waxhaw in 1975; which is still a successful family business today. He was a life long member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where he attended, loved and served on many committees. He also loved raising cows and working in his garden.
